Asbestos can still be found in up to 500,000 workplaces in the United Kingdom. These include commercial, industrial and public buildings. However, it is a misnomer that all asbestos must be removed. As long as it is managed properly, there should be no harm caused to anyone working in these buildings.
The regulations, under which the management of asbestos falls, are ‘The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002’. These regulations affect all non-domestic buildings.
The responsibility of assessing and maintaining asbestos falls on the owner or occupier of the building. It is their duty to assess if there is any asbestos in the premises, and, depending on its condition, either manage or remove it.
Nemco Utilities offer a service to inspect the premises and determine the condition of the asbestos. After this initial risk assessment, they will also suggest any corrective measures that may need addressing. They can arrange for remedial work to be carried out, or simply help the client find a suitable contractor. |
