The Disability Discrimination Act states that
'From 1 st October 2004 service providers will have to make reasonable adjustments to the physical features of their premises to overcome physical barriers to access.'
From this date it will also be against the law for an employer to discriminate against a person because of their disability.
Nemco can provide access audits that:
Assess the current provisions for access
- Detail what needs to be done to meet the requirements of the DDA
- Records the physical and non-physical barriers within the business
- Provide recommendations for improvements to accessibility
The building survey addresses aspects such as car parking; access around the building; ramps and doors; corridors and lifts; communication and signage; welfare facilities; fire provisions and access provisions.
In addition, the access audit reviews company policy; compliance for recruitment; company literature and website and staff training.
Finally, every company must produce a disability statement detailing what has been done and what is planned to be done to ensure continued compliance with the DDA. Nemco can assist in producing this document and integrating it with the company business plan.
For clients requiring both a fire risk assessment and access audit, substantial discounts are available as the building survey can encompass the requirements for both regulations and the client will still receive two individual reports.
