Arson costs company £100,000 damage - August 2005

It is believed that a fire in Suffolk , started at an environmental control equipment company, Abasage, was started by arson. Another company, SI Consultants, who share the site, were also affected by the blaze. It was thought that without specialist fire fighting equipment, the damage could have been a lot worse. Although Abasage had been in business for 6 years and had built up a good customer base, it is not sure how they are going to survive the fire

Police appeal for help on a school fire - July 2005

A fire which broke out at Sir John Hunt Community College in Whitleigh near Plymouth was thought to have been started deliberately. It is estimated that the amount of damage will cost around £70,000. Police are searching for help from the public as to who may have been in the area at the time of the fire.

Factory in Administration - July 2005

A factory has been forced into administration after a fire gutted the site and all the machinery. The Hilliers factory in Plympton, manufacturers of pastry and a major supplier to the food industry, had to make 400 people redundant as there was no chance of the factory being rebuilt. Investigations into the cause of the fire are still progressing.

Maintenance Causes Hotel Fire - July 2005

Pieces of cardboard, which were left in the basement, caught fire after routine maintenance work in The Britannia Hotel in Manchester . Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.

Recycling Unit Blaze - July 2005

A fire at a recycling unit in the Rhymney Valley , South Wales caused gas cylinders at the site to explode. Firefighters were forced to use breathing apparatus as gas cylinders, nitrogen tanks, asbestos sheeting and other materials were in the area. Although there were no casualties, a fire service spokesman said that it was serious incident and the building would probably have to be demolished.

Cigarette Starts Hotel Fire - June 2005

A fire in the Marriot Hotel in Merseyside, which injured a blind man, may have been caused by a cigarette or lighter in his ground floor room say firefighters. The man suffered 30% burns, along with 3 other people who had to be given oxygen.

Blaze Started due to Welding Equipment - June 2005

A blaze at Napier Place , Norfolk , was thought to have started near welding machinery in one of the factories and damaged 3 factory units and an office block. The fire, which took nearly two hours to put out, soon spread to upper floors of the office block. There were however, no casualties.

Elderly Succumbed to Smoke - Jan 2004

Elderly residents at Rosepark Care Home in Uddingston, who left their doors ajar throughout the night, became victims to a fire which broke out in a store cupboard on the upper floor, as there was no protection from the smoke. The care home, only two weeks prior to the fire, practiced fire drills with success. It was the fact that doors had been left open that 7 people died due to smoke inhalation.

Library up in smoke - Aug 1994

Norwich library was destroyed by fire, and historic documents were wiped out when fire broke out, thought to have been caused by a gas explosion that occurred when the caretaker switched on overhead lights. The caretaker escaped unhurt; no-one else was injured in the fire. Although important local documents were kept in a fire-proof vault, many of the items were destroyed through fire fighters trying to extinguish the blaze.

Blaze at Star Transport - June 2004

A fire broke out at Star Transport and spread to Albion Chemical works next door. It was there that a tank burst due to the heat, spilling 80 tonnes of toxic sodium hypochloride bleach into drains and the Little Ouse River.

anston Pickle Factory - October 2004

A fire broke out at the factory after halogen lights ignited the plastic packaging on bottles. It is estimated that there were a loss of sales of £10 million while production was put back on track. This has grossly affected production, and although every effort was made to get things back to normal, there was still a significant drop in sales in the run up to Christmas, and what can arguably be one of the busiest times for the company.

Power Station Fire - October 2004

An electrical fault caused a wooden walkway to burst into flames at a power plant in Thetford. The efforts of the fire crew to stop the fire spreading to the chicken litter, used to burn the power plant's boilers, prevented the fire from being much worse. FibroWatt's sister company, Fibropower at Eye, was put out of action for a few days following a fire two weeks earlier.
