Spa hotel exposes customer to Legionnaires’ disease

Mary Kelleher spent 54 days in hospital, three weeks of which were in an induced coma and when she did finally leave the hospital it was in a wheelchair.

Mary and her husband were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary at a luxury spa.

Not long after she returned home she began to feel ill. After being diagnosed with pneumonia Mary was transferred to hospital where she was placed in an induced coma until she woke up 3 weeks later. She has suffered life changing injuries as a result and had to undergo intensive physiotherapy.
